Today the cabinets were delivered and put in the garage.  There are a lot of them and we are very excited to see what they look like installed.

Day 106 - Paint Test

Since there was some downtime over the holiday we decided to try out some paint colors on the walls.  We've also been in direct contact with our painter (Bruce) who seemed a bit off over the telephone but we've got everything squared away with him.  He's charging us $100 extra for each different paint color we need and then we upgraded the type of paint to an egg shell for the whole house as well.  Our total for paint is ~$2,300 extra which again is more than expected but we think will be well worth it.

We also were busy with shopping for all new appliances and even purchased our new mattress.

Day 100 - Ceilings Stamped

Looks like the drywall guys are all done now.  Ceilings got stamped yesterday and they look great.  Now we're waiting on the call from the painter as we're working directly with him to get a quote on adding color to the house.  I also ordered my in-wall/in-ceiling speakers today from HTD.

I don't expect any more work for the rest of the week due to the holidays.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Day 96 - Gas-line Issues

11am  - Just got a call from my FM and he said the city came and shut down the gas-line install yesterday.  Apparently there are some issues as to where the line is under the street and how they will go about hooking it up.  He has a call into the city to resolve.

8pm - After more discussion with my FM it seems we've got a few problems:

  • The city shut down the gas-line install because they were going to cut into our brand new street.  The Westlake Director of Engineering doesn't want that to happen.  The city is supposed to send some drawings and collaborate with Columbia gas to get a new line installed properly.
  • Westlake is also forcing us to put our storm laterals in now instead of before concrete.  My FM has reached out to our excavator to get this scheduled ASAP.
  • Lastly the City of Westlake is telling us that we should put in a driveway now vs. later stating they will not give us our residency permit without a driveway.  The problem is that putting in a driveway now is risky since there will still be heavy trucks coming that could crack the concrete or potential for oil spills and other damage.  It's also not very likely that we'll be able to put a driveway during the middle of winter.  Typically they give a temporary residency permit in cases like this and force the driveway to go in once spring hits (April/May).  Sounds like I might need to make a call as a concerned resident.

Day 95 - Gas Line & More Electrical

Today the gas company was there bright and early to install the gas line from the street to the house.  Pictures below show that they definitely ran something but it's not yet hooked up to the house.  I think they need a gas meter first.  Also noticed that the electrician must have been by to do some more in the basement.

Lastly we received the following schedule from our FM which basically indicates we won't be in until early/late January.  Oh well, I guess x-mas eve will be at my mother-in-laws:
  • Drywall to finish thanksgiving week
  • 11/30 cabinet delivery
  • 12/1 painter to prime the house
  • 12/2 trim/doors/window screen delivery
  • 12/7 cabinet install
  • 12/8-12/9 trim install including the columns (2 outside, 1 inside)
  • 12/9 template for countertop
  • 12/10 fireplace face/mantle
  • 12/14-12/18 paint and stain
  • 12/21 countertop install
  • 12/22 final plumbing (including waterlines, sinks, faucets, etc
  • 12/28 items we can do (garage door opener install, fan install, etc.), electric hookup

They were there really early.

Day 94 - Drywall Slow

Haven't posted in a while as the taping and mudding of drywall has been going slow so not a ton to report.  Guys were at the house over the weekend again.  One thing we did see on Sunday (11/15) was a whole in the drywall.  I let my FM know and they are fixing it.  Also our gas line installation got pushed out to 11/19.

Whole in the drywall at the bottom of the main stairs.

Day 87 - Finish Drywall Hanging

Drywall finished in the basement and more taping done.  Nothing else too exciting.  Still wondering when the gas line will be installed and the electric to be hooked up for the rest of the house at the panel.

Day 86 - Taping

It looks like they were by and did some taping of the drywall seams.  Didn't take any pictures today.

Day 85 - Drywall Work on Weekend

We stopped over the house around 4pm today and there was someone there doing some work on the drywall (it didn't pass inspection).  Nice to see some new faces since we're always at work when they are working.

Large gap in the drywall of the Master Bath.

They didn't trim the drywall very well at the entrance to the Master.

Here is our granite.

Here is the color for the family/great room along with the main entrance and loft.

Accent wall in the great room and accent in our Master bedroom.

Kitchen and dining room color.

Main floor bathroom and laundry.

Jefferson bedroom and accent color.

Our master bedroom color on the right and the accent on the left.

I think we are going with option #2 for the master and main bath upstairs.
