Day 117 - Fireplace Mantle, Window Seat, & Front Columns

Today we met with our field manager in the morning.  Our son was so excited to meet him and we even got a picture.  They got a lot of work done including the window seat, columns in the front of the house, and the fireplace surround/mantle.

Here were some of the answers to our questions:
  • Now that the locks are on the doors can we start bringing over some items to get locked up (fans, disposal, etc.) - Yes, we were given a key and the house will now be locked
  • Get an update on the schedule for our excavator to tie-in the down spouts - still outstanding
  • Discuss the height of the fireplace mantle - height looks great
  • We can't seem to find where the light switch is for the pantry light - we uncovered the light switch
  • Placement and setup of the barn doors in the master bedroom - our FM put in a track for us and the barn doors should be in next week
  • Bathroom counter tops pricing to replace (we aren't too fond of them) - $500 for the same level; we'll go out to the model home on Saturday morning and see what we can find

Day 116 - Door Handles, Trim, Columns, and Stairs

Today was another great day to come home to a lot of progress.  The wife was very excited to see the stairs complete and they look amazing.  The living room column came in and the outside columns were delivered and should go in today.  All of the baseboard is in for the entire house.

Our FM notified us that he'll be at the house at 7:30am so that we can meet him to talk about a few things.  Here is the list of items we wanted to talk to him about:
  • Now that the locks are on the doors can we start bringing over some items to get locked up (fans, disposal, etc.)
  • Get an update on the schedule for our excavator to tie-in the down spouts
  • Discuss the height of the fireplace mantle
  • We can't seem to find where the light switch is for the pantry light
  • Placement and setup of the barn doors in the master bedroom
  • Bathroom counter tops pricing to replace (we aren't too fond of them)
Front door handle with lock is on.

Railing going to the upstairs.

Stairs leading the upstairs.  Step will be dark brown to match the floor and the risers will be white.

Lots of dust but the column looks amazing.

Here are the columns that will go outside.

Upstairs banister looks great.  The wood pieces will be stained to match the steps.

Basement stairs on in with the handrail.

All of the baseboards are in.

Day 115 - Doors Hung and Trim

The house is really starting to come together.  Today they hung all of the doors, put in the trim around all of the windows, and started cutting the trim for the baseboards.  Also noticed we have some steps in the garage and off the back of the house.  One minor issue is that we are planning to put barn doors in our bedroom for the bathroom and closet so we'll need to take out the doors.

We talked to our FM about replacing the counter tops (at our own expense) and he is working on getting that quote to us.  Here are some of the other open items:

  • Westlake lead engineer and Columbia Gas are still hashing out the details of running the gas line with no ETA
  • Window seat materials are still not in so trim finish will extend to Thursday
  • Our FM is working with our excavator to get the down spouts installed before it gets really cold (no snow yet as of 12/9/15)
  • We've decided to do wood stairs instead of carpet so we're still waiting on that change order as well

Day 114 - Cabinets Installed

Today the cabinets were installed.  The kitchen looks amazing.  There was a mix-up on the island so we're waiting for that to come in.  We're not crazy about the bathroom countertops but we'll wait to see how it all comes together.  Trim and window seat tomorrow.

The kitchen is massive.

View of the desk.

Brackets for the bar top.

Cabinets facing the stove.

Facing the kitchen sink.

Facing from inside the kitchen looking out.

Check out the wine-rack to the left.

Laundry room cabinets.

The laundry room counters look great.

Downstairs bath - not a fan of the kitchen countertops.

Master bath.

Main bath upstairs.

Day 108 - Primer

Today our painter got the whole house primed in a light gray.  He also put on the first coat on the downstairs.  We love the colors.  He won't be coming back until next week and hopefully we'll have the gas hooked up and heat in the house by then.

Tomorrow is suppose to be another major delivery day of trim, doors, and window screens.
