Day 157 - Flooring Started & Downspout Trenching

Today was a busy day at the house with flooring being delivered, prepping flooring, and our new excavator (Arron) digging up the yard and putting in the laterals for the downspouts.  This should help some of the drainage issues around the property.  Both flooring and trenching should continue into tomorrow.

We also made another big decision.  The AC unit was installed on the East side of the house to our displeasure.  After talking with our FM (and even though he suggested otherwise), we've decided to move it to the back northwest corner on the ground on a stand until we can have a permanent concrete slab poured.  We just didn't want to see that on the side of the house where we intend to put a sidewalk to the backyard.

You can see here that the AC unit just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Day 156 - Shelving & Electrical

The house is really starting to come together now.  Pretty much all of the electrical work is done including lighting and outlets.  Shelving, mirrors, and bathroom accessories also were installed.

One thing that bothered us was that the AC unit was installed at a different place than originally agreed to.  After some discussion we're going to move it to the ground instead of mounted on the side of the house.  This will allow for a much better walkway to the back of the house.  It will require some extra work on our part to pour an even concrete slab but I think it will be worth it.

The wife is starting to get very excited and of course is looking at more minor changes.  The lights that came with the house give off a yellow tint so she is now looking at new fixtures.  Also the fans in the bedrooms are a little low so we are going to see if they can make them flush mounted.

Day 153 - First Lights

Today was an exciting day to come home and be able to flip on some lights.  The kitchen can lights are amazing with the LED bulbs.

Our FM provided us with the following schedule;

• 1/20 Wednesday - flooring and countertop
• 1/21 Thursday - flooring
• 1/22 Friday - flooring
• 1/25 Monday - plumber
• 1/26 Tuesday - carpet
• 1/27 Wednesday - carpet
• 1/28 Thursday - inspections
• 1/29 Friday - cleaning
• 2/1 Monday - touch up

My wife also confirmed the following delivery schedule:

• 1/25 - Garage door install
• 2/11 - HHgreg delivery and install (appliances)
• 2/20 - Kronheim's delivery (bedroom & dining room furniture)
• TBD - Dutchman delivery (mudroom locker )
• TBD - Andrea's delivery (living room furniture)

Day 149 - More Painting/Staining

Today the painter was by again staining the stairs, the barn doors, and doing some more general painting.  It looks like he'll be by again tomorrow and maybe Wednesday as well.  He has warned us not to walk on the stairs until Thursday and even then to put down some paper to protect them.

The electrician called today and will be by on late Thursday and all day Friday to work on electrical.  He asked us to put out our fixtures so that he can put everything in the right spot.  Excited about having lights by the end of this week as the phone flashlight just doesn't cut it.

Day 145 - More Painting/Staining

Today the painter did some more painting and staining.  I'm not feeling confident that it will be done by tomorrow as scheduled but everything looks good so far.  Also the cabinets for the island and laundry room were installed along with the kitchen cabinet molding.

Next week is supposed to be final electrical and prep for flooring.  Kitchen granite the week after and final plumbing 1/21-1/22.

Day 144 - Trim Painting

Today our painter was out and we discussed many options for the fireplace mantle, window seat, and barn doors.  We ended up deciding to do the fireplace mantle all white, the window seat white on the outside and clear stain on the inside, and clear stain on the barn doors.

I also noticed that there was another outlet covered up in the loft space that contained ethernet/cable lines.  Our FM noted that he would take care of that.

Day 142 - Furnace On

Today our FM came over and hardwired the furnace.  It was nice and warm in there today.

Solid blue flame is a good sign.
