Day 48 - More Electrical

More electrical went in today but not finished.  We decided to bite the bullet and do everything.  I know that we're going to be so happy with our decisions.  He should finish tomorrow.

Day 47 - Electrician Meeting

We had a good day with the electrician today (Keith).  We were originally supposed to meet at 8am but that got pushed back to 9:15am.  He had the majority of the house marked up for outlets and such.  He was very helpful to provide some ideas for us and this really opened our eyes to items we never really talked about.  Most of our upgrades were with lighting and switches.  He also will be doing my coax, Ethernet, and speaker wiring for me.

The price-tag for all of these changes was a shock but now I truly see how a bunch of small items (along a couple of big ones) can add up fast.  We're going to sit down and look at the finances tonight to make some final decisions.

He pointed out some concerns with the tight space behind the kitchen island.  I'm not so sure it's as much of a problem as he thought.  I did some research and had some others come out to give their opinion.  I think we maybe move the island 2-3 inches away from the stove but not much more otherwise it could be hindered by the refrigerator.

We also noticed that the plumbing for the hot and cold water in the garage were put on the back wall.  Keith pulled them out of the wall (didn't realize they weren't set) and we put them closer towards the front but still on an inside wall.  Glad they weren't finalized yet as we wanted to put a workbench back against the wall.

Here was the suggestion about the island.

DO NOT want these here.

Day 46 - Plumbing

We were surprised to see that all of the plumbing looked pretty much done.  Lots of work in the basement with the sump pump being connected to the outside line so no more need for the hose to the back yard.  Shower and tub were in upstairs and the Jefferson made sure to point out where all of the toilets are at.  Noticed that the gas line was in for the fireplace.  Lastly it looked like there was a spot in the mudroom where the heating ducts were crimped to fit in some water lines (we'll see if that's going to be an issue or not).

Tomorrow is going to be a fun day with an 8am appointment with the electrician to walk through the house.  I printed out some paper to allow us to mark where we want outlets, switches, and lighting.

Sump pump connected to the outside.

Downstairs bathroom roughed in.

Gas-line from fireplace coming downstairs.

Looks like the trades got into an argument.

Plumbing for the laundry room.  Hope this isn't going to be an issue since we have a cabinet and the washer and dryer are tucked away.  I expected this to go on the exterior wall but I hope it's not an issue.

Gas-line to fireplace.

1st floor powder room sink.

Looks pressurized to me.

We marveled at the maze of plumbing in the ceilings all connected to this pipe running into the ceiling.

Jefferson's bath tub.

Our master bath soaker tub.

Master bath shower.

Toilet.

Not sure what this pipe is for sticking out of the west side of the house.

First time I noticed this sticking out from the outside of the house for the fireplace.
I might have gone overboard here but Jenn is a visual person and this will help everyone.

Day 45 - Fireplace and Shingles

Fireplace was installed and shingles on the house put in place.  I also walked over and started penciling in where I want the electric outlets ahead of our meeting with the electrician (Keith) on Tuesday.

Molding on the outside of the front door is cracked.  I think this is temporary but pointing it out anyway.

Roofers showed up bright and early.

Day 44 - House Marked

Our FM was over today and we actually got to talk to him for a good 45 mins (not once did he hesitate to answer any of our questions and he really took time to listen to our concerns).  He marked up the whole house with where the major items were going, flooring markings, door markings, and he swapped out the temporary railings upstairs with safer ones.  He was also able to supply us with our official Guarantee Completion Date certificate (12/21/15).  That seems like right around the corner and an eternity away all at the same time.

The main topic of discussion was around the door at the bottom of the basement stairs.  The copper waterline (as I pointed out the day it went in) will be in the way of the door swinging open into the basement.  We talked about a few ideas of making the platform at the bottom of the stairs larger allowing us to move the doorway over and then leaving more room for it to swing open.  He's going to think about it and get some other people's opinions but we'll definitely have to do something about it.  Worst case scenario they move the copper waterline over but we'll try to avoid that if we can.

We also talked about what we will have to do when we eventually finish the basement as getting the drywall down there will be a pain.  He suggested we just use smaller pieces (just like they are going to have to do when putting in the basement bathroom).

Lastly our FM did some decorating in Jefferson's room by spray painting his name and putting some cool shapes on the floor.  He really enjoyed it when we went over there this afternoon.  I wish I would have gotten a picture with our FM as he's such a good guy.

Here is the copper line in question with the door opening behind it.

Another angle of the waterline.

Here is the post in the living room. (you can see the black marks on the floor of how large it will be)
