Day 168 - Ceiling Speakers

We had a good time today putting in the ceiling speakers.  We found one issue with the drywall guys putting the hole in the wrong spot but my FM said he would get it taken care of.

Day 167 - Plumbing

Today the plumbers were by bright and early (before 7am).  We're not happy about the main water-line coming into the house by the basement.  It's a pretty big eye sore and I still think the door opening up into it is going to be a problem.  In retrospect I should have had them move it right from the get go when we saw it during foundation laying (see Day 31 - http://westlakebuildwithwaynehomes.blogspot.com/2015/09/day-31-lot-preped.html?_sm_au_=iVVsZ66tnFk7PJjQ).

At the end of the day we made the decision to move forward but this is just a lot sloppier than we expected.  It will also be a problem when we try to finish the basement.  Also Our FM told us that the Cleveland Division of Water did not pass the inspection because there is one extra shut off on our line than they want and the need to order different style fittings for the copper portion per their inspection results (which have already been ordered).

Looks like everything but the laundry room sink was installed.  The wife thinks that the toilets are too small (we just got the standard ones) but I think they are OK for now.

Still waiting on a date for the plumbing but here is the schedule for us as of right now:

• 1/30 - I got the OK to install my ceiling speakers so I'll be doing that tomorrow
• 2/1 - I have my cousin coming over to help with some of the low voltage wiring (CAT5/Caox)
• 2/3 - Cleaning
• 2/4-2/5 - Paint finish, walkthrough, and touch-ups

While we're so close I also know there is a lot of little things that need to be done.  I've been told by others and have told my FM that I will not release the last bank draw to Wayne Homes until everything meets our approval.  I'll start putting together a more comprehensive punch list shortly.

Day 166 - Flooring Complete & Other Goodies

Looks like they finished all of the wood floors, tile, and grout.  The house looks much cleaner than the last couple of weeks.  Our FM assured us that now that we have carpet that the rest of the contractors would take off their shoes or wear covers.

The big surprises for me was the barn doors were installed, the new cabinets were installed, and the I see that fireplace is working (it might have been working prior but just never tried it).

Tomorrow the plumbing guys are supposed to be in doing what I think is a lot of work for one day but we'll see how it goes.  They need to attach the main water line and move it away from the basement door, attach all waterlines throughout the house, install toilets & sinks, hookup the outside waterlines (3 of them), install fixtures, and test everything out.  (note: they showed up on 1/29 @7am).  Next week should be cleaning, painting finishes, & inspection.

Other items:

• Back-splash got approval to get installed next weekend so we are moving on that
• AC unit is scheduled to be moved tomorrow as well
• We got an estimate for the driveway are ready to go but I think we'll need to wait until March/April to pour based on weather
• Got a large quote to paint the basement so I think we're going to do that ourselves (anyone want to help?)
• Plan to install the in-ceiling speakers this weekend (and hopefully buy the new 65" tv)
• Need to start thinking about:
• Window blinds
• Fence
• Other deliveries
• Cabinet hardware
• Figuring out timing to install the two in-wall speakers (the wire is still buried in the wall)
• Choosing a cable provider
• Starting to switch over all of our address information to the new house

Dat 165 - Carpets & Flooring

Carpets went in today and they look amazing.  The guys were there till after 8pm and did a great job cleaning up.  I wish I could say the same for the flooring guys who finally started the grout.  The laundry looks great but they did a pretty sloppy job on the basement bathroom.  We went a picture to our FM and he's pretty pissed too.  We'll see if they fix it tomorrow.

Tomorrow the counter tops are supposed to flipped out to the new ones we picked out.  Also the flooring is supposed to be done.

Day 164 - Flooring Moving Slow

I was home sick again today but stopped by the house a couple of times.  The flooring guys (3 of them) were there today but in our opinion going very slow.  I even bought them pizza for lunch hoping that would speed things up but not so much.  They laid the basement bathroom tiles and finished the wood flooring in the kitchen.  They still have to finish the master bath tiles and grout the three bathrooms along with the laundry room.  They also have to lay the wood floors in the foyer, hallway, and the half bath.  They were supposed to be done today and maybe into tomorrow but I'm thinking not until Friday at this pace.

The carpet is supposed to be installed today but I'm not sure that is going to happen with the mess the house is in right now.  We e-mailed our FM and he assured us it was still on.  The wife is very concerned that the rest of the trades are going to make a mess on the brand new carpeting.

Our FM gave us an updated schedule on 1/23:

• 1/23-1/27 - Flooring
• 1/27 - Carpet install
• 1/28 - Countertop switch outs
• 1/29 - Plumbing
• 2/1 - Cleaning
• 2/2-2/3 - Painting touch-ups (we may need to take some time off to be there for this)

Some other random thoughts:

• Wondering if it's going to be warm enough to put in the driveway and sidewalks before we move in - still waiting on a quote from our new excavator 
• We have appliance deliveries scheduled for 2/11 so hopefully that works out
• We've decided on the tile back-splash and now just waiting on the price quote along with timing to install
• It's probably a good time to start getting some estimates for fence installation as well as we had that in our PPI's

Day 163 - More Flooring, Electric & Garage Door Opener

Every day the house is coming together and getting us more excited.  I missed some entries as the wife and I have been sick.

Today the flooring guys were in and will be here until at least Thursday and potentially Thursday.  The electricians were also here and pretty much finished everything.  Lastly the garage door opener was installed.
